| 2000- | In August 2000, I founded Elektrosmog, an open, Stockholm-based discussion group for non-telecom public wireless networks (elektrosmog.nu). Four months later, the group had 170 individual members. Related grass-roots public Wireless LAN projects exist in London, Seattle, San Francisco and other places. | |
| 1999- | 2000 | For 16 months, I was contracted by Spray Network AB, Stockholm, a public web portal operating in several European countries. Besides two smaller projects, I was the system architect for the design of a complete webmail system for over half a million users. The system was implemented in JSP, Java, Oracle, Solaris. My job included establishing routines for documentation, version control, code review, and testing in the development department that grew from 10 to 40 people during this time. Spray has since been acquired by Lycos Europe. |
| 1998 | For 3 months, I was contracted by Linköping University to investigate continued electronic publishing activities based on Project Runeberg (see below). The more important part of this work was published in conference paper titled Project Runeberg's Electronic Facsimile Editions of Nordic Literature, available at www.lysator.liu.se/runeberg/admin/19990511.html | |
| 1996- | Since this year I have been working as an independent consultant/contractor. I do this under the name Aronsson Datateknik (www.aronsson.se). My office is in Linköping, Sweden. | |
| 1995- | 1998 | For 3 years, I was contracted by Bull AB as a systems programmer for the Swedish national voicemail system, operated by Telia (Mobilsvar, Telesvar). This is a single system that serves 2 million users with high demands on response time and availability. For much of this time, I was responsible for ongoing development of the database subsystem, which was implemented in C++, Oracle, TCP/IP, AIX. This Linköping branch of Groupe Bull has later been acquired by Teligent. |
| 1994- | 1996 | I was the cofounder and co-owner of InformationsVävarna AB, an early web consulting start-up in Linköping, Sweden. During this time, my tasks included everything from sweeping the floors and paying salaries, to giving advice on Internet strategies and teaching courses. After I left the company, it has been renamed Roxen Internet Software AB (roxen.com) and changed its focus to producing the award-winning Roxen webserver and content management software. |
| 1993- | 1994 | For 9 months, I was employed at Innovativ Vision DocEye AB as a systems programmer for their document scanning and workflow systems sold to Arbeidsdirektoratet (Dept. of Labor), Norway, and Vägverket (Dept. of Motor Vehicles), Sweden. These systems were implemented in C, Informix, TCP/IP, Solaris. DocEye has since been acquired by WM-Data. |
| 1992- | In December 1992, I founded Project Runeberg, a volunteer-based Internet archive of classic Swedish and Nordic literature, one of Sweden's oldest and biggest websites (www.lysator.liu.se/runeberg/), for which I still act as the coordinator in my spare time. The original purpose was to explore using the Internet for publishing on a bigger scale, launched a few months before the NCSA Mosaic webbrowser was released. | |
| 1986- | Soon after entering the university, I became a member of Lysator, the students' computer club (www.lysator.liu.se). I was the chairman 1987-1988, and started to teach voluntary evening courses in UNIX and networking, making the club grow up to 600 members in the early 90s. This club became a pioneer in most aspects of the Internet, including MUD games, IRC chat, open source software, Linux, gopher and web publishing, residential LANs, and MP3 music. | |
| 1985- | I was an undergraduate student of computer science at Linköping University, Sweden (www.liu.se). This is a program leading to an MSc diploma, that I never finished. | |
| 1985 | I was one of five Swedish participants at the international physics olympiad in Portoroz, Yugoslavia. | |
| 1982- | 1985 | In highschool (Swedish gymnasium) I met computers for the first time, which quickly ended my previous interest in electronics and shortwave radio. Inspired by VisiCalc, I soon implemented my own spread sheet program in Fortran that I used for science and engineering assignments. |
| 1966 | I was born in Örebro, Sweden. | |
